2007 "La Matrosse" White Burgundy from Domaine Besson

2007 "La Matrosse" White Burgundy from Domaine Besson

Another great bargain we found for around €8 in the local market in Givry. A food-freindly level of acidic character with distinctive white grapefruit and perhaps green apple flavors wrapping around a good, long finish with some silky glycerine-like feel.  Quite pleasing and definitely a distinctive character compared to some of its companions on the shelf, and a definite keeper.  Not your average €8 white from Bourgogne, and a pleasant surprise.  According to legend, King Henri IV (16th century) favored Givry wines above all others. (perhaps because his girlfriend was born there?) …they claim this on large signs on the road into the village of Givry. We will be learning more about this little domaine in the near future!
