Crémant de Bourgogne From Domain Deliance in Dracy-Le-Fort (next to Givry)

The small village of Dracy-Le-Fort (next to Givry) hosts Domaine Deliance (Pere et Fils) who are masters at the art of making Cremant, the sparkling wine of Bourgogne.  We tasted their “Ruban Rose” Brut (change back from your €10!).  For three generations (created in 1947 by Marcel Deliance) this family has been making wines and cremant. Since 1975, Gerard and Philippe run a 16 hectare property.  They provide expertise in creating Crémant de Bourgogne for neighboring producers.  As stated in their brochure (including their non-bubbly wines) translated by Jennifer:

We devote the full year nurturing our grapes to maturity, thus insuring the standard of quality we require. Hand harvested, grapes are selected from the vine and carefully laid in vats to protect against bruising. Then, depending upon the year and the wine, they are gently rocked for 10 – 15 days. Wines, fragile and delicate, demand a commitment to quality in the vineyard as well as skill and craft during the wine-making process.

BOURGOGNE ROUGE (RED BURGUNDY)
This vibrant wine delivers a fruit forward flavor which allows one to take pleasure in its youth.

GIVRY ROUGE (GIVRY RED)
A blend of old and new vines: this marriage brings a youthful energy that contrasts the more profound and chaste character of old vines.

GIVRY 1ER CRU ROUGE (GIVRY RED 1ST VINTAGE)
Drenched by sunlight on a southern slope, this wine takes full advantage of its environment to produce flavors bewitching the palate with hints of vanilla bean, pepper, and red fruits.

Our sparkling wines, Crémants, are carefully crafted in our own chateau caves. Jealously sheltered from noise and light, the wine is encouraged to mature allowing its flavors to ripen and take form. The result is an elegant and witty delight for the palate.

Réserve: This is our introductory Crémant, a marriage of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes providing a pleasing compromise between youth and sophistication To be shared and enjoyed among friends.


Ruban VERT (GREEN Ribbon): Chardonnay grapes provide us with an earthy theme threaded with notes of vanilla and butter. The classic Crémant foam doesn’t disappoint as it teases a lingering character. Excellent as an aperitif, with fish, white meats, desserts…


Ruban MAUVE (VIOLET Ribbon): O Pinot Noir, you sly seductress, one is captivated by the delicate perfume of white flowers and fruits, lingering in a creamy foam both tender and refined. For aperitifs, but above all with desserts. ~ €7.50

Ruban ROSE (PINK Ribbon): An ordinary rosé is but a taste of juice from the vats at harvest compared with our Crémant Rosé. We begin with a white wine made in the classic Burgundy tradition then meticulously introduce red wine to finish, creating a Crémant crisp and elegant.


Ruban OR (Gold Ribbon): A wine of character. Here is all the complexity of Chardonnay and elegance of Pinot Noir. The rippling melody of flavor is only a prelude to this our most sophisticated Crémant. Ideal as an aperitif.

Mousseax: A playful aperitif and true to its appellation this, Mousseaux will titillate the palate with the white fruit flavors that emanate from this wine.

We found the “Crémant Ruban Rose” deliciously refreshing, crisp and dryer than the pink color would lead you to believe. Smooth, playful mouthfeel with busy effervescence and great satisfaction. There was definitely mineral undertones, no overwhelming fruit or other flavors. Nicely balanced aroma with a slight hint of red berries, but no overbearing fruity flavors. Nicely acidic finish from what tastes like an Aligote grape base. Clean and tasty, and beautiful to look at. We like this one.  More tastings of their other Crémants to come!
